Credit fraud

Credit Fraud

Credit fraudsters can often be recognised by the fact that they offer fast and straightforward loans to people who have been turned down by banks.

How to recognise bogus offers:
  • Credit offers without checking the prosecution or central credit register.
  • Credit offers even in financial hardship where no reputable bank would offer financing.
  • Amount of loan exceeds customary market limits (100% mortgage for buying a home).
  • Advance payments, deposits into a fund or cash payments demanded as collateral.
Recommended action against fraud:
  • Check offers and brokers
  • Request information from banks and reputable financial service providers
  • Consult local budget advice centres in financial hardship
  • If in doubt check with the authorities
