Pick-pockets and confidence tricksters
It can happen very quickly |
Pick-pockets are shrewd criminals. They deceive their victims with different tricks and diversionary moves. They commit their crimes in heavily populated areas such as shopping centres, events and railway stations. We anticipate that during EURO 2008 there will be more pick-pockets and confidence tricksters. Pick-pockets look for «protection», they prefer working in areas where a lot of people come together or were crowds of people are: e.g. in shops, shopping centres, on public transport or at large events. They often operate in twos or in groups, look for crowds and get close to victims. They distract them with tricks. In general you should have healthy mistrust and caution! |
Snatching crimes usually occur on the street. The criminals – very often young people on two wheels – come up to their victims from behind and snatch their handbags. Quite often the person attacked then falls and injures him/herself. Sometimes motorised criminals even do without bicycles, by approaching the victim from behind on a moped or motorbike and quickly snatching the handbag or shopping bag from the person carrying it.Police tips for EURO 2008Avoid problems by observing the following tips:
