Different fan groups celebrated loudly and wildly. Particularly in the area of the Niederdorf and Limmatquai, multiple conflicts - mostly due to excessive alcohol consumption - resulted in injuries and subsequent arrests. Furthermore, plainclothes policemen of the municipal police of Zurich, supported by German colleagues, have caught eleven pickpockets on Friday. Daily Overview Security EURO 2008Daily Overview Security EURO 2008, Friday, June 13, 2008 (mic) EURO-BULLETIN ZURICH: Just before 01.30 am, a violent argument between a German and two Croatian football fans took place. / Shortly before 03.00 am, a 23 year old Swiss dropped her baseball cap into the Limmat. When attempting to recover the cap the young woman fell into the river. / Shortly before half time, security forces had to intervene because a man had burned pyrotechnic material in the midst of the spectators. He was arrested and banned from the stadium. (Source: http://www.sicherheiteuro2008.ch) MISSING SANDRO BICKEL: On Sunday, 8 June 2008, 16 year old Sandro Bickel was reported missing from his residence in Glattfelden and the public viewing zone in Zurich respectively. The juvenile went to the fan zone in Zurich on Sunday evening, 8.6.2008. Shortly after 11.30 pm he called his mother in Glattfelden, since then he is considered missing. USE OF FIREWORKS PROHIBITED: The municipal police of Zurich draw the attention to the fact that it is forbidden to burn private fireworks for safety reasons. In the past days the municipal police of Zurich noticed a number of isolated instances in the public viewing zones where fireworks were used. The municipal police request all visitors to refrain from using torches or any other kind of flares and fire works. People who do not comply with these rules will be charged and banned from the stadium. The stadium will be opened at 5.15 pm. The police expect increased traffic and potential delays in particular on the motorway A2 between the junction at Augst BL and Basel. EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL: The final score in the match between co-host Switzerland and Turkey has caused frustration among some fans. Due to the quick intervention of the security forces the situation was eased. Fortunately, no severe incidents were reported. GALLEN: Following the match Switzerland - Turkey a militant group of about 50 people provoked Turkish football fans in front of the UBS Arena and started brawling. GALLEN: The match Switzerland - Turkey on Wednesday night was followed by minor cases of provocation, damage to property and brawls throughout the canton. No greater incidents were reported. THE FOOTBALL FESTIVAL CONTINUES: The Swiss national football team has been eliminated from the UEFA EURO 2008. However, for Switzerland as host and all the fans, the European Championship goes on. Thousands of fans and visitors were in attendance in the host cities and the public viewings, bringing with them the long anticipated EURO atmosphere. The vast majority of visitors arrived and departed by means of public transport, following the recommendations.. (Source: http://www.switzerland.com) ORIENTATION AIDS IN SUPPORTER ZONES: The municipal police of Zurich have installed orientation aids in places where many visitors are expected. A four digit number placed on e.g. snack bars will allow rescue workers to locate people in need of aid. (http://www.police.be.ch) QUIET NIGHT FOR SECURITY FORCES: During the night after the opening match between Switzerland and the Czech Republic, only 12 people had to be arrested because of hooliganism and attacks against police officers. Around 100 people had to be treated because of minor injuries or health problems, an additional 18 were treated in hospital. Public transportation was extensively used and thus traffic was easily regulated: no traffic jams were reported on highways. ST. GALLEN: SMOOTH OVERTURE: The overture to the EURO 08 was a success in the opinion of the police of St. Gallen, with no incidents worth mentioning. After the game Portugal vs. Turkey, supporters blowing their horns obstructed traffic for a short while.

Daily Overview Security EURO 2008Daily Overview Security EURO 2008, Tuesday, May 27, 2008 (miz) MEASURING FLIGHTS IN LOW ALTITUDE: A measuring helicopter of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) will fly over the St. Jakob-Park football stadium, the fan zones in Basle, the fan camp in Pratteln as well as the 9th stadium in Bubendorf on Thursday morning, May 29, 2008. As the measuring shall be conducted at an altitude of approximately 100 meter above ground level, short-term noise imissions are to be expected. The flights occur in the course of the yearly measurings in various areas of Switzerland. Their objective is to obtain maps of the natural radio activity. On this basis, even small deviations may easily be located in the case of an occurrence. Last year, NEOC measured the City of Basle and the entire tri-border region. The measuring flights of Thursday, however, are confined to a small part of the region and take place upon request of the Project Organisation Security EURO 2008 of the host city Basle. PriSec-E08 will assume responsibility for the planning, coordination and on-site implementation of security matters in the arenas. The police support the organisator in the planning and execution of the required measures. The organizer has released rules of conduct, which, amongst others, clarify the access controls and that set forth what objects may be carried along to the arenas and which are prohibited, respectively. Overview Security EURO 2008Overview Security EURO 2008, 26th of may (miz) TEMPORARY VIDEO SURVEILLANCE DURING euro 2008: In Basle 23 video cameras will be installed in these days to guarantee a temporary video surveillance with the focus on the three fan-zones, the public viewing area (Fanmeile) and the neighbourhood of the “St. Jakob-Park” stadium. During the EURO 2008 the cameras will transmit a general survey of the public flow and possible disturbances to the assessment center “Spiegelhof”. The video surveillance during the EURO is in accordance with the legal requirements and has been permitted by the cantonal data protection official. The recorded pictures will be automatically overwritten after 48 hours and will only be analysed by the responsible police officers in case of disturbance. (Source: http://www.sid.bs.ch)
LIMITATIONS FOR SWIMMERS AND SHIPPING: For the safety and security of all users of the Rhine, the police have issued further limitations for swimmers and shipping during the EURO 2008. Thus the maximum velocity between the Wettstein Bridge and the Johanniter Bridge is limited to 10 km/h for small vessels. In this sector, anchoring and on site maintenance are forbidden for such boats. The same holds true for landing at a pontoon or a buoy, respectively. Moreover, the swimming zone at the Rhine shore in Klein-Basel which is marked with blue buoys must not be cruised. Swimmers on the Rhine need to observe that on the Klein-Basel side swimming is only allowed within the zone signalled with blue buoys. As always, swimming in the shipping channels is strictly forbidden. It shall be reminded that also during the EURO jumping from the Rhine bridges is extremely dangerous and thus remains prohibited. CAMPAIGN AGAINST WOMEN TRAFFICKING: An awakening spot at the EURO 2008 mobilizes against women trafficking. This evening, May 26, 2008, the campaign «Euro 2008 against women trafficking» launches a spot against the trafficking of women. The awakening film reminds of a movie trailer and leaves a clear mark against women trafficking. Through the broadcasting of the spot during the EURO 2008 in the stadiums, at public viewing events as well as on television, a broad audience is being informed on women trafficking in Switzerland. Humiliation, debasement, violence, exploitation – it is hard to endure what a victim of women trafficking experiences. Still, it is reality, even in Switzerland. This is shown by a spot which is launched by the campaign «Euro 2008 against women trafficking».
