GOOD PREPARATION: In order to ensure safety and security during the EURO 2008, specific structures have been implemented in the Canton of Aargau: At the police headquarters, a Euro-situation centre has been put into operation. Beyond that, the cantonal police will be assisted by the management support staff and the communal police forces. At today’s conference, cantonal councillors Kurt Wernli and Ernst Hasler informed the media. This was done together with the heads of the cantonal police and the cantonal management support staff. BLUE BANDANAS: During the EURO 2008, the security forces of the Host City Basel will give away dark-blue bandanas, which may be worn as headscarves or neck scarves. The background for this friendly operation is the fact that also the security forces see themselves as hosts. The small gifts shall sustainably enhance the recollections of the EURO 2008 in Basel. The bandanas are printed with useful information such as the emergency phone number 117, places of interest, and St. Jakob’s Stadium. TRAFFIC JAMS: The Police Corps of Basel are ready for the opening event. Visitors to the stadium as well as the public viewing zones are asked to arrive early and to use public transportation whenever possible. In particular, a high volume of traffic is expected on motorway A2 between the junction Augst BL and Basel from mid-afternoon on.
